In preparation for publication, I was tasked with asking authors, influencers, funny people, and anyone I thought might say something nice about my book to write a blurb or endorsement. Trust me when I say that doing so is a touch embarrassing, more than a little awkward, and downright silly. And yet, these gracious humans took the time to give little ol' me a read.
“Hello? Who Is This? Margaret? is a find. A series of sometimes rollicking, and sometimes tragedy-bounding, but always amusing essays of a girl who starts on a path to a life in show business but gets diverted. From the West Coast to the East Coast to Prague, the essays take us on a journey best described as a report from a woman living, although not as a writer, but as a modern-day member of the Lost Generation. To grasp the breadth, depth, and fascination of the life being depicted, you have to read the book.”—Mark Lonow, actor, co-owner of the World Famous Improv
“Dani Alpert has the uncanny ability to make you laugh while also being brutally honest, especially about herself. Her essays are so richly detailed that you feel like you’re a passenger on her poignantly funny adventures, from a bleak hotel in a desolate part of Prague, to her parents’ house in the suburbs, to her encounters with celebrities. Even when things don’t go the way she hoped they would, Alpert manages to find encouragement and inspiration to keep going. And we find ourselves cheering for her success, while laughing at the many obstacles in her way.” –Scott Blakeman, comedian.
“Hello? Who Is This? Margaret? is a front row seat to the inner workings of a woman with a wildly imaginative comic mind. Get swept up in these laugh-out-loud personal stories and Dani’s refusal to let heartbreak, or like all of us having a few dreams dashed, ever get the best of her.”—Dani Klein Modisett, Laughter On Call, Founder/CEO, Author of Take My Spouse, Please
"Dani Alpert’s new book Hello? Who Is This? Margaret? had me at Hello? And the cover. Immediately, I wanted to be on the other end of the phone call with this woman and hear what she had to say.
Dani’s stories made me laugh out loud and kept me entertained on each adventure she took me on. She’s a character I rooted for and admired for her zest for life and willingness to take chances on herself.
Grab a cup of coffee and settle into the book – you’ll swear Dani is sitting across from you with a cup of tea, telling you her stories." –Jill Effron, cookbook author, What’s in the Dorm Fridge?
“Even when we were kids at Theater Camp, Dani showed confidence, humor, and moxie. I know readers will enjoy Hello? Who Is This? Margaret? as much as I did. Like Dani, this book has it all.” -Allan Murray, stand-up comedian
